99% of scientists probably identify more with Charles Turner in the particulars than they do with <your favorite Nobel laureate>. Is there some sort of canonization process for those long dead who in retrospect should have been beatified in life?

You mean, other than the actual canonization process, which by definition is for those dead (including long dead.)

But for, you know, scientists, not people fed to lions or roasted for failing to syncretize?
