This used to be case with consumer SSDs many years ago, nowadays the effect it has on the life span of an SSD is marginal. I had (and still have) my swap file / pagefile on my cheap laptop with 4GB RAM on the SSD it came with for 5 years now and the SSD is still perfectly fine.
Alternatively (or complimentary) to "get more RAM", to prevent system ping south as RAM fills up set vm.swappiness to 0 or 1, and configure an OOMKiller (anyone have thoughts on which is "best"?).
