Ask HN: What Things Tend to Go Viral

1 pointMarlonPro1 comment

There are things that go viral. We've seen a lot of articles, projects, or open source that go viral here at HN.

I have always wanted to go viral - whether that's an article or a personal project. I know you cannot just want to become one; it just happens.

What do you think the kind of article or project that tend to go viral?

I appreciate all your 2 cents.

Variable reward, drama, and incentives; Being promoted by a source of credibility helps as well. Why do you want to go viral? What are you optimizing for? Is the desire 'to go viral' a proxy for perhaps some other unfulfilled need of yours? If you have answers to these questions you find satisfactory go for it, otherwise I would look into why you have this specific desire.
