Very curious to see how lidar performances matches up versus Intel's $350 L515 lidar. https://www.intelrealsense.com/lidar-camera-l515/

Intel's proud of their 3.5W power budget. That makes me want to think it'll be a different class than what we'd find on a mobile device. But I'd be so curious to see a "shoot out" between these scanning laser-rangers.

Oh, I forgot about that. Is that being adopted?

Looks need addition to industrial equipment and a bit too steep to be a toy.

This article is about iPad, not iPhone.

(Not poster) Agreed, but it does have some interesting information regarding the use/history of Lidar.

From March

What are some practical use cases for it, I see very little ?

Seems like there are apps that can do blueprint/floorplan creation using lidar. Also seems like (from the video, not an expert) Apple is using it within their ML to make the lighting in the photos and videos more crisp/clear. I was honestly interested in the idea of getting one of these devices and offering to realtors the generation of floor plans for their listings. Could cover the cost of the phone (or the iPad) in just a few weekends I would think.

Someday it'll lead to far better video-conferencing, I tend to think. People feel still & far off on the screen, to me, even with good cameras. If we could map people into space, I think we could do a lot to make us feel closer together & more alive on the screen.

low light autofocusing was discussed in the live event. 6x faster focus using true depth sensor.
