The only time I feel dumb in life is while watching his videos. Math doesn't come as easy for me as programming does and he always sounds as if it's trivial to follow along. But it isn't for me. I went so far as to unsubscribe because it became an unpleasant experience.
I like the visuals in his videos, but I agree that he presents things as though he's discovered, and is now showing you, a trivial new path to deep insights. Then, when he discusses a topic I already know something about, it seems like he's going through a convoluted path and it could've been said a lot more simply.
He has very geometric intuitions to everything which makes him somewhat hard to follow for me as well. Math is much, much easier for me to understand symbolically/algebraically
It makes sense for him to emphasize his visual approach because that's almost every education program's weakness. Quality animation is very expensive.
Don't get me wrong, I think what he's doing is very valuable! My issue with it is that I always come away from his videos feeling like someone just told me a fun fact, not that I've really understood it and learned something I could use in the future. The animations are good at illustrating what he's saying but do not give me confidence in his statements being correct beyond my blind faith in him as a person.
> The only time I feel dumb in life...
I find that feeling dumb in life is one of life’s greatest opportunities!
Sure, but there are literally an infinite number of things to learn / discover with maths. Watching videos which show me one of those but doesn't manage to teach me ends up leaving me disappointed.
I wonder who else is using his animation engine to do videos. It doesn't mention it in the docs.
