Which has some good engineering, but many missteps in manufacturing. When some other established manufacturer puts some real engineering effort into a vehicle, teslas many flaws will become more apparent.
When the home improvement store wood being used in manufacturing came up a few weeks ago, https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24424567 people seemed to ignore that it's necessary and normal to spend 10s of hours disassembling your car to fix panel alignment issues upon delivery.
I remember choosing majors and realizing that as a computer science major I could do political science, but it would be a lot harder to go in the other direction. Maybe there’s something similar going on here: it’s a lot easier for a company that’s great at engineering to learn manufacturing than for a company that’s great at manufacturing to learn engineering.

“On February 6, 2014, General Motors (GM) recalled about 800,000 of its small cars due to faulty ignition switches, which could shut off the engine while the vehicle was in motion and thereby prevent the airbags from inflating. The company continued to recall more of its cars over the next several months, resulting in nearly 30 million cars recalled worldwide and paid compensation for 124 deaths. The fault had been known to GM for at least a decade prior to the recall being declared. As part of a Deferred Prosecution Agreement, GM agreed to forfeit $900 million to the United States.”
