This is something I've been thinking about for a while. In the next few years we will cross a threshold. Past that point of no return, we will have significantly less certainty about the past. There's an opportunity to preserve much of that certainty simply by securely hashing as much existing content as possible.
Future historians will be in our debt, should we manage it in time.
