What does everyone think about the trend of using .io for registries? I've always considered gTLDs to be safer than ccTLDs.

Given the choice of something like llll.dev or llll.io for a private registry, would one be preferable?

gTLDs are safer than ccTLDs, especially the ccTLDs that were sold off to a private company like .io was. The contracts that provide the ccTLDs are almost empty of any guarantees whereas the gTLDs have to adhere to strict requirements.

I guess that is ignoring US jurisdiction, right? I guess most gTLDs are owned in the US (or generally speaking, foreign) legal space.

Going for your own (solid) ccTLD should be the safest for you.

But if you want to provide a service for worldwide, you won't want to use ccTLD like .fr, .mx because it looks like domestic service.
