In general, I agree with this... There are cases in which there is actual value in breaking "out of the box", but it's difficult to calculate the ROI. It also depends on the licensing cost of a tool and the skill of your team. Enterprise software can be insanely expensive, and with the modern framework and the right team, it might actually be significantly cheaper to build features yourself. I recently built a DocuSign replacement which also collects payment method for 1/2 the cost of the yearly subscription. Turns out they didn't need to actually collect signatures in the first place, but they were doing so because they modified their process to fit the tool...
