Peter Thiel gets a lot of shit on HN (my comments mentioning him usually get downvoted) I think because of his politics, but there are few people who have more non-consensus views that end up being correct. It's easy to be non-consensus and wrong most of the time, or conformist and correct most of the time, but hard to be non-consensus and often correct, which is what makes Thiel worth listening to in my opinion.

This is also discussed on the very first episode [0] of The Portal where Eric Weinstein talks with Peter Thiel. It's been a while since I listened to it but I remember I found it to be an interesting discussion and an unusual viewpoint. [0] https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nM9f0W2KD5s

I have a really hard time resolving these ideas with Thiel's helping to get Trump elected and working with Trump's administration. Has Thiel ever addressed this?
