Blocking ads mostly results in a much better user experience. Pages are faster, fewer annoyances (and popups), sometimes bypassing paywalls, etc.
For blocking ads, I only trust and use the following on Firefox (and some other browsers):
1. uBlock Origin (not to be confused with uBlock, as the article also says)
2. Privacy Possum (this is a fork of Privacy Badger)
3. The browser's tracking protection enabled.
Combine this with NextDNS (or LittleSnitch if you're on macOS) for blocking ads at the DNS level and you're set for a good experience. Sometimes a few sites will refuse to work when their trackers from these blocklists are blocked. If it's a news site or blog, I just abandon the site. If it's a site that I need to use, it takes less than a couple of minutes to figure out what to unblock.
