This is the best thing in 2011 by far. I enjoy the fact that more people are seemingly calling bullshit on this industry, it kind of needs a dose of realism.

I'm not so sure. According to Forrester, the average American will use 187 different photo sharing services by 2016. It seems like this could be a good chance to get in on the ground floor.

187 different photo sharing services?! I think that's a gross over estimation... I bet I'll use closer to 10-20 by 2016.

No no, you missed the point. It's not that 187 photo sharing services will exist, it is that each American will personally use, on average, 187 photo sharing services. About a thousand will exist. Forrester also projects that Scoble will be the top user on all of them.

Why would anyone believe that number? It sounds insane.

Why not? They used a pretty solid methodology, I'm sure. http://xkcd.com/605/

That is an awesome comic. I'm going to totally use that.

Er, I think it's a joke. Did I miss the point?

I'm thinking that I and 10 other people did. Doh.

187 indeed :) Going to have to call in a 5150 to keep average investors from being burned this time...

You've been associated with California LE, or similar, me thinks.

Edit: Apparently Van Halen used "5150" for an album title. Shows how out of touch I am.

Ahh, I didn't know it had hit the vernacular. Thank you.

Maybe I'm not average, but I've used around 2-3 photo sharing services in the past 5 years.

Whoosh

Startup idea:

A photo sharing service sharing service.

Startup Idea: Do a better job than Forrester

Its hard to get a dose of realism when you live in California!

I agree. However I have learned not to mention the B word on HN - as I did recently in response to a large funding round for another service startup - lest I be downvoted into oblivion. I upvote this!

I don't think this investment is bullshit at all, and here's why: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2363943
