If anything screams BUBBLE it's this video. I can't put my finger on it, but something about this video just has such a 1999 vibe to it.

What's wrong with a little cross-promotion? Long-standing businesses do it too.

As soon as twitter's revenue model involves delivering dog food over the internet you'd be right. Until then lets party like it's 1999.

I tried to submit that one, but whoever submitted it originally picked kind of a "front page news that won't get to the front page" kind of title and it was buried pretty far down. If someone with super HN powers can edit the link to discover.twitter.com that would be super :)

But seriously, I don't get what Twitter needs a commercial for. They need a business model, not more users. But I guess they need to burn all that CV money on something.

It seems that they've recently realized that only closed platforms bring (a lot of) money (Windows, Macintosh, Facebook, Google Ads), and they think they've made a mistake by opening up previously. But platforms are like proverbial cans of worms: once you open them, good luck trying to close them back.

I'm not sure what the big deal is here. I mean the Russians will send you up to the ISS for like $30M - $40M these days to visit for a few days. So you ask the Russians or NASA if you can borrow one of their HD cameras to film a commercial spot. Their both hard up for cash, and its not like you're asking them to film anything unseemly or anything.

They didn't even do that though. They interviewed an astronaut on the ISS and he turned the camera toward a window. They probably didn't have to pay anything.

You don't have to launch a probe to do that. They just have to go "@nasa mind if we borrow some video from you guys?"

Yes. I saw an astronaut being interviewed along with some celebrities. Stephen Colbert has the same things on his show (interviews from space included). He even got the ISS treadmill named after him. Is there a comedy bubble?

All I'm seeing here is "look at this! bubble!" and nothing to link the video to the assertion.

I think the bubble argument is more that they're expending nontrivial resources on artsy commercials rather than figuring out a business model.

Perhaps they reused the set the moon landing was filmed on. (j/k im not a moonie)
