Stop and Look at the Dates for a Second

I am going to guess the poster was playing with "date" command or "settimeofday" function and accidentally set the system clock to 1910 ? And then they proceeded to check all sorts of unrelated things instead of trying to root-cause the real problem.

I guess this was the life before Stack Overflow -- if you have a beginner's question, you don't really have a nice place to ask it... and "serious" mailing lists might simply ignore you instead of explaining the obvious.
