A/B testing whether or not people have finally gotten tired of fighting for the web. Once they can go for a few months without anybody speaking up, they'll move on to further stages.

It's illegal to do that in the EU, so probably only affects non-EU terretories.

An alternative possibility is that the original site doesn't have a non-amp alternative, so no original link is included.

AMP is an obvious attempt to embrace/extend/extinguish the open web, so yes it has a PR problem.
