I think the asynchronous nature of email makes it a superior communication medium. With slack and other messaging apps, we all end up writing short bursts of whatever is on the top of our head, without much thought or organization of the ideas. In contrast, with email, you can take some time to create a concise and well-organized message. I find email threads to generally be shorter than the comparable slack threads with each email adding more useful information.
