My guess is it might stick around on lower end iPads for a bit. That and Macs which don't even have face id yet.

Even if it comes to higher end Macs it will probably be absent from lower end ones.

How well is faceid doing with people wearing loose masks?

It might be coming back. The face detect doesn't work with masks.
