Ask HN: I need a resource for purposeful AI

I mean, I need hypothetical computational models that describe AI's who have their own values and seek to reshape their environment according to their values. As if they were purposeful NPC's in a video game. But all resources on AI's I've encountered work with predefined goals (not general values capable of creating their own goals).

Note: I do not need a solution, just half-baked theories and models.
