My policy is to close the window, be it Medium, NYTimes, etc

Plenty of free access websites to cover my needs without them. Why should I jump through hoops if they don't want to share publicly?

Would you rather be advertised to and spied on (pretty sure they track you regardless of whether you're a paying customer though)?

Personally I'd rather pay for quality content than this devolution into everything is clickbait.

Does medium randomly chooses who should login ? Because I didn't get a login prompt.

I don’t think it’s the author. I think it’s medium itself which sometimes forces that login popup. I get it too but I get rid of it by going to incognito.

Thanks for the tip. I think some responsibility lies on the author as he chose which platform to publish with.
