I had the same feeling. I'd been working on building software for so long that I wanted to build something with my hands. But I ended up building a whole house instead. I ended up doing about 60% of the actual labor on a 7000 square foot house by myself with one laborer as an assistant. I did most of the foundation, framing, finish carpentry, flooring, stone masonry, siding, and electrical work myself.
