This is how socialism "works". One pays enormous taxes his whole life, but then, when it comes for government to protect one's health, they do nothing and name this even "liberal".
We'll see how it turns out for them. But so far, it doesn't look like they're about to be decimated anytime soon.
The case with Sweden is that the central government ("regeringen") cannot order people around; it's explicitly forbidden in the Swedish constitution ("ministerstyre"). This is different from many other countries, like Norway and Denmark, and might explain why there's no big leader that has felt the pressure to make people stay home.
Other Nordic countries such as Denmark, Norway, and Finland has more or less identical health-systems/tax-schemes and they have taken very different routes.
You mean like New York with its 40+% taxes?
Every similarly "socialist" country that is taking a more aggressive approach disproves your point.
