I would not leave Microsoft for any of them.

Why not? The pay is lower than Google, equity is below that of Facebook and rather meager, it doesn't provide the freedom of a startup, and 80 percent of the job is navigating politics.

I have my list of why it's a great place to work, but I also have my list negatives. I'd like to hear other's candid opinions.

Pay's not a great motivator for most people in our field, once it gets past a certain low level. There's a summary of an interesting RSA talk at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XAPnuFjJc ; I'd appreciate links to the mentioned studies if anyone has them.

What you linked to is an animation of a Ted talk by Daniel Pink. This in turn comes out of his book Drive. The thesis is that a higher paycheck will not spur greater creativity; it says nothing about what will spur one to move laterally to a company. All things being equal, people would rather have more pay.

People always say that they are making enough at their level; but when the offer comes, it takes about 10% to get someone to move from Redmond to Seattle.

No disrespect, but (not knowing how long you have been at MS) dont you think that thought-flow between companies is good for overall technological progression?

Whilst your reasoning for staying put are surely sound for you, is your comment that, because of those reasons, your staying put makes sense - or that it is your opinion that MS is better than all the options, for anyone?
