Possible! If you make a 3D hologram of a 2D plane, it will still be 2D, but at a particular depth location.

This makes my head hurt to think about, though.

Yes, this would work well!

Might have a more narrow viewzone, because the light field from those is fairly narrow as I recall.

So it won't 'contract' (forshorten?/rotate?) if you move around it? That would be neat.
