Ask HN: Is Patreon removing the $1 contributions?

Got this text from a creator:

So, I was recently approached by Patreon and they suggested that I remove my $1 Tier because by the time Patreon take their % cut, and Payoneer/Paypal take their % cut and I pay Tax on it too, there really is nothing left.

Looks like the lowest tier will be $3. Is this a general move and will this price people out of supporting creators?
