Show HN: Friday – Slack complement for distributed teams
I'm Luke, the founder of Friday (https://www.friday.app). We make it easy for distributed teams to stay connected by making it easy to share what you're working on (daily standups, weekly updates, retrospectives, and any other routine communication).
I've worked remotely for the past six years for a few different companies. There were times when I felt disconnected and unaware of what was going on at work. The best places I worked for understood that there was a need to create predictable communication "habits" so information flows to the right people on a regular basis. In a way, they created a communication architecture of sorts, like you might architect a codebase.
As I dug into the problem, I noticed that leading distributed companies we creating their own "Slack complement" to try to help people understand what was going on at work from a high-level. Examples:
Automattic created their own tool called P2. Zapier developed their own internal tool called Async. Stripe hand-rolled their own internal tool called "Home".
There was a need to abstract the work out workplace chat and project management tools. So we built Friday!
With Friday, you can architect asynchronous communication habits (we call them workflows) that you'd like to run. You can configure the frequency, questions, reminders, notifications, and more. This helps create predictable communication compared to other tools on the market.
My favorite part about Friday is how connected I feel at work with my team, without the need to have constant meetings. We have one regularly scheduled meeting a week, which frees me up to do deep work.
I also wrote about what it was like to bootstrap on nights/weekends to $10k/mo, if anyone is interested in reading the inside story:
