I agree. I work in healthcare and HIPAA rules dictate some sort of Anti-Virus solution for all computers (stupid rule!). My employer chose Sophos, which uses several extensions, and my system is definitely more unstable and less performant because of it. Hopefully forcing vendors to use the proper APIs and preventing them from monkeying around with the kernel will improve my experience.
