The last tracker was just removed from Basecamp.com

these kinds of privacy-oriented moves should really be celebrated more, here and around the 'net.

i just need to find an excuse to use basecamp and show my support. =)

Taking advantage of privacy fear mongering, and a lazy approach. GA is not a third-party advertising tracker. (unless you use that option)

I am a huge privacy advocate. What google does is disgusting, both their anti-competitive practices and their privacy issues. I block all calls to GA via ghostery, myself.

It's not a bad thing that they are moving away from GA. But what basecamp is actually doing here is recoil against the google ads 'shakedown'. They should be honest about it. It's a fine action to take and fine reason to take it. "Privacy" isn't. I mean, it might be, but in basecamp's case it isn't.

I don't think that Google/Facebook/Twitter/Amazon/etc. need to know every web site you visit.

I also find web demographic analytics rather distasteful.
