Ask HN: Why do tech people love coffee?

It’s a relatively inexpensive legal stimulant. It’s not just tech people. It seems popular amongst all class of people most everywhere.

Since programming involves no other physical activity than some finger- and eyeball movements interspersed with periods of just thinking, my body tends to assume that I'm ready to sleep before long. Coffee mitigates that somewhat.

For the same reason non-tech people love coffee: it's a social drink with lots of caffeine.

They don’t love it. It’s an addictive substance. That has been glamourized.

Why people love drugs? It's addictive stimulant.
