Ask HN: Should medium, pinterest, WSJ, etc. be banned by search engines and HN?
Weblogs that are based on medium.com have no control over how their content is delivered. Basically, if you don't buy a plan, you cannot read an article on such websites.
Another, less greedy, approach is also taken by pinterest.com in which you must have an account to see the rest of the content. I think such websites should be banned on search engines and also on HN [0].
I understand companies may have different strategies to stay profitable, but I believe what medium, pinterest, and others (e.g. WSJ) are doing goes against the very nature of an open internet where information is freely available.
