Ask HN: Why Is the US Naval Observatory Website Offline?

It was unavailable due to TLS/SSL errors two days ago, and still is. "The connection was reset."

Is there some de-funding going on that we need to know about? WTH.

Site, https://aa.usno.navy.mil/

Possibly related to this notice on the front page of the main USNO site [0] (assuming it loads -- I received a "can't connect to the backend" type of message at first)?

> The USNO websites aa.usno.navy.mil, ad.usno.navy.mil, aristarchus.usno.navy.mil, maia.usno.navy.mil, rorf.usno.navy.mil, and toshi.usno.navy.mil are undergoing modernization efforts. The expected completion of the work and return of service is estimated as 30 April 2020. Please submit a requirements form to the USNOPAO if the information you are seeking is not accessible via other means.

If it's not because of that, I'd assume it's just the same ol' problems we've all experienced with random web sites before.
