I do a lot of work with databases and I find it absolutely insane the amount of money you have to spend in the cloud to get the performance equivalent of an 8 core bare metal server with 64 gigs of ram and a couple NVMe hard drives.
absolutely. from my prior calculations buying hardware yourself pays for itself within 2 1/2 months. the cloud is expensive as hell. you pay dearly for not having to manage your own hardware and scalability...
