Wage taxes for under $50k in income should be zero. Ditch all earmarked tariffs and implement a 5% across the board import tariff which is essentially a national sales tax. Cut the NDAA operational budget in favor of letting the 50 States implement Swiss style defenses. Equalize the US Postal Service budget with NASA. Build 1 foot diameter pneumatic/hyper loop tubes under the interstate network to modernize small package and bulk data transfer.
Have DOE make electric steel smelting and electric based low carbon fertilizer/cement production a top priority. Increase the NSF budget for grinder/sifter/centrifuge/pickerBot tech so a modern municipal recycling rig can be modular to a few semis. Same for a modular ethanol production rig that farm cooperatives can use.
Take bids on electric USPTO/DOD short and long haul trucks. Mandate as part of the contracts they also be available commercially in the same quantity for no more 10% more.
The harder win will be more efficient allocation of workers. Govt agencies could grease the wheels by doing one click job applications on linkedIn etc, and offering training benefits to all part time workers.
Govt student loans need to be burned to the ground in favor of GI bill style packages where you do a year of government service in return for having some school paid for. There should be no age limit.
Healthcare is simple. All Medicare/Medicaid bills paid to providers should be public record. Sunlight will quickly cleanse market inefficiencies.
It’s easy to forget how many potentially revolutionary ideas are yet to be tried, once we remember the power of good government.
Although I am also skeptical of hyperloop delivery, it seems worth costing.
I hope the US snaps out of its market obsession and starts experimenting with this sort of thing, before it’s too late.
