Is that a dig at Randall Munroe? Went back to click, pleasantly amused.

Yes it is lol -- Zach (the comic creator) has a longstanding admiration and jealousy of Randall and XKCD's popularity, and references it occasionally.

I suspect Randall may say "challenge accepted"...

I think they are friends. I seem to remember Munroe mentioning Weinersmith in something online a few years back.

I mean, he even drew a guest comic for XKCD: https://xkcd.com/826/

This is a pretty good xckd reference https://www.smbc-comics.com/comic/religion-ruining-everythin...

"Dig" implies malice, I think 'poke' or 'rib' is more precise.

For those on devices where the button doesn't work, here's a direct link to the extra panel: https://www.smbc-comics.com/comics/1481723502-20161214after....

There's also a humorous image caption that on mobile you can bring up by tapping the picture.

I've been reading SMBC for a few years now, and never thought to click it...

thank you! I have so much catching up to do :)

So you don't have a second revelation: there's also hover text, but only for the past couple years, whereas there's a red button image on almost every comic (for 17 years).
