Ask HN: What's the Future of HCI?
HCI = Human Computer Interaction
I'm looking back at the work of Vannevar Bush, Douglas Engelbart, Ted Nelson, and Alan Kay. It seems like their visions were ahead of their time and are still more ambitious than anything we have today.
Instead of reinventing the future of HCI, I would like to first review all the existing material on the subject. I'm interested in everything, from sci-fi (Star Trek, Minority Report), research labs (Xerox PARC, DynamicLand), existing technologies (Semantic Web, AR/VR), future technologies (Neuralink), etc.
Is anyone familiar with the state of the art in HCI? What's coming in the near future? What will the perfect user interface be like in 10, 100, 1000 years? What opportunities are available today, with existing technologies?
