Ask HN: Top three engineering books for a beginner/intermediate programmers?

Hi HN. Recently I've been thinking about the idea of encouraging growth and learning in the workplace, as an alternative to just trying to hire the skills a team needs. What 3 books (or other resources, doesn't have to be just books) would you all recommend for beginner/intermediate web application developers to become all around better at programming?
