From a quick glance at the alistapart topics, it seems to me as if the site has veered off to some other world I know nothing about.
I'm a woman and handicapped. I kind of get where she's coming from and I've read better pieces that make the point much clearer that when tech is designed almost entirely by able-bodied white men, it is designed with a great many built-in assumptions that cause problems for almost everyone else, even if they aren't handicapped.
I don't really agree with using the word accessibility to mean inclusiveness as she appears to be doing, but I only skimmed it and only because your question piqued my curiosity.
