You dont think second-order effects of actions are relevant? You don’t think it’s relevant that we’re brain draining other countries, and that it might actually make those countries and their citizens WORSE OFF? Why are you so committed to your shallow level of analysis? Why don’t you care about the poor people in the countries that the H1B guys leave behind as they travel to America to enrich the USA?
I bet H-1Bs are the only time many people get so bothered about the global poor. Imperialism and colonialism have caused much more harm to poor people in India or wherever than a bunch of smart people seeking a better life.
It's similar to how unauthorized immigration is the only time many right-wing people start caring about homeless US citizens. US tax and transfer policy has caused much more harm than all unauthorized immigrants combined, of course. Right-wing arguments here can at best be described as motivated reasoning.
That’s impossible to quantify because those people seeking a better life also abandon their home countries.
LOL dude, what do you think remittances are gonna do other than pay for their kids to get educated JUST SO WE CAN BRAIN DRAIN THEIR KIDS TOO?
I don’t understand why the left is not anti-immigration because immigration so obviously hurts developing countries through brain drain.
Do you actually dispute that colonialism has caused more harm than emigration? Wow. Holy shit.
> LOL dude
I'm not a dude.
There are large parts of the left that are anti-immigration. They are also all bigoted. Nationalism is bad. Internationalism, caring about all workers, is good.
Edit: oh right. You're the one who talked about "rapid" "onset" gender dysphoria the other day. Silly me to engage with you again.
I don’t dispute it, I just don’t claim to know because I’m not omniscient, and people who claim to know are actually just taking it on faith because it’s unquantifiable.
>I’m not a dude
In 2019 it’s a gender neutral term, no need to gender it.
>Nationalism is bad
Eh, again, we’re not omniscient so we can’t know this. Do you really think nationalism was bad for Japan when they were rebuilding their economy after Hiroshima and Nagasaki? I think nationalism helped Japan a lot in that circumstance.
>Internationalism, caring about all workers, is good
Again we’re not omniscient so we can’t pretend that we actually care about people we don’t even know. Also, “all workers” is a weird generalization. Jeffrey Epstein was a worker but is he really worth your care?
>you’re the one who talked about “rapid onset gender dysphoria”
I fully support trans people. I have many trans friends. I’m open minded. Can you convince me that “rapid-onset gender dysphoria” does not exist? I’m totally open to the possibility of it not existing... however, I’ve seen it with my own two eyes. For me the thing that’s important is to LISTEN TO TRANS PEOPLE, and the trans people I know are the ones who introduced me to the term “rapid-onset gender dysphoria.” They believe it, so I believe it, because I listen to them. Can you convince me to ignore trans people and what they tell me? I don’t know why you’d want to, but feel free to try.
