ASIS is organizing an all-cryptography CTF. CryptoCTF is starting tomorrow, August 10th, at 06:00 EDT. If you like Cryptography and Algorithms, we are inviting you to join us!
The address of the live chat channel is freenode ##cryptoCTF
What is a CTF?
The CryptoCTF FAQ page has a link to this site[0], which helps explain what a CTF is.
A "Capture the Flag" game. A style of digital security simulation game thing.
Are the tasks progressively more difficult?
The CTF Time listing for it indicates that it is "Jeopardy" format, which I assume means categories with increasing value/difficulty. It also lists the competition as being open for 24 hours.
Thank you, I got a similar answer over on IRC. I know jeopardy but just the main idea so I could not deduce that :p

Kind of poor timing…
It would be good to at least once mention somewhere if it's cryptography or cryptocurrencies. Even FAQ just calls it crypto all the time. (It's cryptography)
It would be even better if cryptocurrency community didn't hijack the term cryptography (which even overlaps theirs).
Too late.
You mean "hijack the term crypto" right? I think cryptography still means the same thing in the cryptocurrency community.
Yes, merci, point taken.
Not sure why you're downvoted. I read it the title and immediately thought there was a blockchain involved.
Downvotes are probably stemming from general hatred of cryptocurrencies. After all they “stole” the word crypto in mainstream media, just like criminals “stole” the word hacker long time ago.
The front page says "...test their passion for cryptography. Each task will be based on a particular cryptographic primitive or it will include a direct application of cryptography in other fields."
