Interesting... tl/dr: In January the planet is closer to the sun, but the earth doesn't heat up as much because there's more ocean on the southern half of the planet, and water pipes heat into the depths of the ocean. In June the northern part of the planet heats up quicker, even though the planet is slightly farther away from the sun, because rocks transmit heat much slower than water.
