Can any people who know the situation in Sri Lanka comment on what the causes of this are? Has there been a deteriorating security situation in Colombo for some time, or did this happen unexpectedly?
I remember a documentary on Kandy, it seems a beautiful and peaceful place. Such a tragedy.
I don't know a huge amount about the conflict but why churches? The country is majority Buddhist and the Tamil separatists were largely Hindu so how does Christianity fit in?
Given that this is an organized attack with possible strategy, I would suspect it's to create a narrative that the current government is weak.
