I've met some lifelong friends by going to the same cafe every morning. Both people working there and other customers.

I met my wife at a coffee shop. In fact someone I met at the coffee shop introduced us. Married 25 years. Doesn't seem superficial to me.

So where do you go to socialise with other folks, if not to a place where a lot of folks actually do their socialising?

With people i know? To a cafe.

With people i don't know? I really don't know. Perhaps a pub. Or a club (like sports club). Or political party groups.
