This is a refurbished one.

I don't get why people still buy SE when you have a multitude of better phones from other companies, say Samsung or OnePlus.

Apple refurbished products are the only refurbished products I would by. All products receive a brand new outer casing, battery, and original box (with accessories) no matter what. Additionally, everything is tested against the same benchmarks for new products so they are really "like new." The come with the regular one year warranty without any limitations, and are eligible for the paid AppleCare plans, which shows that Apple's financial department is satisfied that refurbished products perform just as well as new ones and do not break any more often. Lastly, buying refurb help to reduce electronic waste and environmental damage.

I think that iPhone 4 (and subsequent copies including SE) has the best design ever, still unmatched by any phone.

And iOS, of course.

I really hope for SE 2. Might be SE X :) I bought 8, but I can’t get used to its huge screen after my 4S. The only feature that I like is wireless charging.

The iPhones 4 looked like high-end cameras, not cell phones. I still think it’s the best-looking set of phones anyone’s produced.

Yeah, 4S was the best.

I will still play with mine sometimes, great form-factor and older iOS was much more enjoyable.

I'm really curious - What else can I buy in that size range? I'm very interested in newer small phones.

It's definitely an under-saturated market. Some people fancy regular sized Pixels (of any gen). A family member of mine prefers small phone sizes, uses a Pixel on a regular basis, and it works for them. I expect the same for the newer gen non-XL models.

There are the really niche (and borderline fringy) ones you can find on Amazon. There are also some more general purpose Chinese phones for that. I'm not going to get into any of them because they're probably not what you're looking for, but they exist. (read: Unihertz phones)

On that note, there are the Nokia phones which are reasonably-enough sized, but nothing special. They're also quite terrible and overpriced as phones. The new Palm phone is also kinda fringy but worth considering.

A lot of these aren't really in this form factor, but phones are getting way too big and it's getting harder and harder to find really small phones like these (that can be reasonably used, ofc).

The secondary market for Nokias is pretty good, a Nokia 6.1 can be had for ~$160, which is a reasonable price for it.

Unfortunately sub-5" phones are nearing extinction. The last holdout on the Android side was the Sony Xperia Compact line, and even that seems to have been discontinued.

All that's left now is a dwindling supply of existing models on the secondary market and a handful of extremely low-end Android phones.

Edit: There also the Sharp Aquos R2 compact, but it is only available in Japan.

There are no other phones that can compete with the SE on size and specs, unfortunately. Companies stopped making reasonably sized phones long ago.

iOS and not android. There are reasons to stick with one platform over the other. Same with sticking to macOS or windows or Linux.

Apple have routinely demonstrated more action to protect the security and privacy of uses than any other mainstream vendor.

Plus this 4" form factor is magic.

iOS. And claiming that those other phones are "better" is opinion.

Because I strongly prefer iOS and have >$500 of apps in my account.

What apps do you have that you've spent over $500 on?

Not OP, but off the top of my head I’m running OmniFocus, Things, MindNode, Screens, Prompt, GoodNotes, throw in a couple of $10 games over the years and I wouldn’t find it hard to get up near $500.

Mostly drawing apps and music apps, with a decent handful of paid games.

And on that note, with some Android ROMs and even with some modifications, privacy issues on Android devices are slightly alleviated. But yeah, Apple is natively better for privacy.

Ain't nobody got time for that. Seriously. I've played the ROM dance game and it leaves me wanting to throw my phone off the nearest bridge. As much as I don't like apple, there is no way I'm going back to the android minefield. Purism is the only alternative that piques my attention.

I feel like constantly being screwed by these companies while being chained to a wall without the means to defend myself.
