Hacker News Reader

It is if you can make a paper out of it and increase your publication count.

I highly doubt that you can get a paper at any respectable conference or journal showing something is Turing Complete.

From the security point of view, it means that it can be used execute code from user space. Just about anything that's Turing complete should be on someone's list of potential attack vectors.

Yes, I agree

Why is it glorified? Unless all these researchers are really just intentionally giving code word to hackers for a target to exploit or weaponize, but it doesn't really seem like thats the point with these people.

It means the halting problem applies, and analysis of program behavior becomes much more difficult. Could be an interesting attack vector.

Here is the (overly) simple explanation: Something being Turing complete means that it can compute anything that can be computed.

I asked why it was important to anyone, not what it was

why is this glorified

Ask all the c++ metaprogramming people :)
