Ask HN: Creative uses for retiring HPC servers?
I have about 20 numbers of
HS22 blades, each with
2 X Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2637 v2 @ 3.50GHz - total of 8 cores per blade
128 GB of memory.
70 GB of spinning disk.
1Gbps networking
Can you think of any creative uses for doing non-critical work on these servers?
1. Power is not a concern.
2. I'm not mining any coins.
3. I'm not particularly interested in hosting network mirrors for anything-
Looking for something that can be indirectly useful to our users (research group), or something that can be a learning experience for myself (Sysadmin).
So far, I have thought of
1. IpyParallel - expose all these servers through a single Jupyterhub server.
2. Kubernetes / Singularity play cluster - learning experience for me.
What else do you think I can do with them?
