Yeah, not exactly a ringing endorsement of rackspace that the rackspace-hosted blog saying they're leaving is down under the load.

funny part is...it's on the rackspace cloud.

What is the limiting factor here?

You misconfigured it, then, I'm afraid to say... Number of threads = server memory/maximum memory usage per thread - 10% margin for overheads.
