I'm a comp sci grad and my wife is an M4. She's a smart cookie and likely could have found a job right out of undergrad getting paid more than I do.
When my wife finishes residency, we will be nearly $1M behind where we'd be if she had simply started working as a professional.
And do you think anti depressants get paid by health care? Someone needs to buy them as well. Most CS students I know are happy when they can afford the frozen pizza from the super market.
And that's also the main point here. It is a sign of wealth that you can worry about depression. If you are not, then you are also depressed, probably even more so, but can't spend time worrying about it because you worry about rent and food.
Also if someone is diagnosed with clinical depression, insurance will definitely pay for antidepressants. That diagnosis can be made by student health.
