I wonder if journalists have any self awareness when they criticize facebook.

The irony is that the current headline will perform better when shared on Facebook than a fully accurate headline.

Facebook sets the incentives for every media producer today.

clickbait doesn't only work because of facebook. Headlines that twist the truth to sound more compelling than the story actually is are not a recent invention.
