Naive question: are these sorts of advertising/documentary things common in open source programming languages? Open source software more generally?
I watched the documentary and I found it to be compelling and well produced while also informative.
It is not that common. Erlang has a famous one "erlang the movie". This one feels more like a hat tip to the awesome erlang one.
This is a good video. Im the target market as someone not up on programming language hype, lately. I tried Elixir in 2015ish and enjoyed using it. Now, 4 years later I am definitely motivated to build something in 2019 in Elixir.
