you can already run VMs on azure or aws and access them with rdp.

With more and more transition to cloud platforms this might be a short sleep.

Though I still prefer a local environment for quick iterative development I often can't justify the time to spin up/manage a VM due to how quick I could otherwise do cloud native development in a browser.

You may never be able to run VirtualBox on an iPad Pro but there is a good chance VirtualBox will run on an Apple chip in the near future.
