I used to make all my websites in pure Perl, and got along ok. When I discovered web frameworks (specifically Django), I just about pissed myself. I hate needless abstractions as much as the next guy (more, probably), but I strongly believe that web frameworks will make a programmer orders of magnitude more productive.
